A 38-year-old man has been arrested and is under investigation for an alleged arson attempt at a gas station in Heusenstamm, Germany.

According to the South Hesse police, the incident occurred when the man, who was reportedly heavily intoxicated, returned to the gas station despite being banned from the premises and the surrounding area. The man had previously threatened a gas station employee and had been asked to leave by the authorities.

In a disturbing turn of events, the man approached a fuel pump and poured a liquid, presumed to be gasoline, over it before setting it on fire. The fire quickly spread, but quick-thinking gas station employees grabbed fire extinguishers and were able to put out the blaze. All fuel pumps were deactivated via emergency stop to prevent further damage.

The police were called to the scene and were able to arrest the suspect. Investigations revealed that the man had a breath alcohol level of 2.3 per mille at the time of the incident. The police are now looking for more witnesses to the event.

The man's actions could have led to a disaster, and the criminal police are taking the investigation seriously. The suspect had also tried to force his phone number on a gas station employee before the incident, which further raises concerns about his behaviour.

The gas station employees are shaken but safe, and the police are grateful for their quick actions in putting out the fire. The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of drunkenness and the importance of following the rules, especially in sensitive areas like gas stations.
