Introducing Cyprus's National Gambling Self-Exclusion Platform

The Cyprus National Betting Authority (CBA) has taken a significant step forward in promoting safer gambling behaviour and protecting vulnerable groups with the launch of the National Self-Exclusion Platform (NSEP) on February 20, 2024.

The platform, a powerful tool in the fight against problem gambling, was unveiled by NBA President, Ms. Ioanna Fiakkou, who expressed her satisfaction with the development. According to Ms. Fiakkou, the NSEP is an essential component of the Safer Gambling Strategy 2022-25, aligning with key objectives outlined in the Authority's strategic framework.

The NSEP empowers players to set self-exclusion across all licensed online bookmakers in Cyprus. Players can opt for temporary or indefinite self-exclusion, with the purpose being to provide better control over gambling-related harm. During self-exclusion, account access is limited to withdrawals only, and creating a new account is prohibited.

In her address, Ms. Fiakkou emphasised the importance of collaboration in the fight against match-fixing and enhancing transparency in sports. She extended a public invitation to all stakeholders, including athletes, to join the efforts for safeguarding society, in collaboration with relevant federations and governmental bodies.

The NSEP is designed to help players manage their betting activities more effectively. While there are no specific details about additional functionalities planned for the platform beyond self-exclusion, general trends in responsible gaming initiatives suggest potential enhancements such as:

  1. Enhanced User Interface: Improvements to make the platform more intuitive and easy to use.
  2. Increased Accessibility: Expanding the platform's accessibility through multiple channels, such as web, mobile apps, or integrating with popular messaging services.
  3. Educational Content: Adding educational resources and materials to help users understand the risks associated with gambling and provide support for problem gamblers.
  4. Integration with Other Services: Collaboration with mental health services or support groups to offer comprehensive support for individuals struggling with gambling addiction.
  5. Data Analytics: Implementing robust data analytics to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the self-exclusion program.

The NBA's dedication to player protection and the establishment of a sustainable and fair betting sector is evident in the development of the National Self-Exclusion Platform. Registration for the NSEP is free and straightforward at https://www.exclusion.cy/. The platform is poised to integrate additional functionalities in the future, further reinforcing protective measures for the public and fostering the industry's sustainability in the right direction.

Casino-and-gambling trends are likely to incorporate enhancements in responsible gaming initiatives, such as improved user interfaces, increased accessibility, educational content, integration with support services, and data analytics.

Sports-betting enthusiasts can now manage their activities effectively with the help of the National Self-Exclusion Platform (NSEP), a tool launched by the Cyprus National Betting Authority to empower players and fight problem gambling.

The NSEP's potential future developments, including the integration of additional functionalities like those mentioned above, reflect the commitment of casino-personalities like NBA President Ms. Ioanna Fiakkou towards a safer and more sustainable online betting environment.
