New Generation of Dolby Vision Unveiled: CANAL+ Leads the Way

Dolby Vision, the premium HDR (High Dynamic Range) system, has unveiled its second generation, Dolby Vision 2. This new iteration positions CANAL+ as an early pipeline for Dolby Vision 2 experiences, making it the first media group to pledge enhanced Dolby Vision delivery across films, series, and live sport.

The new system features a rebuilt image engine called Content Intelligence. This AI-assisted tool automatically tunes a TV to what is being watched and where it is being watched, ensuring optimal visuals for every viewing environment.

Dolby Vision 2 also includes bi-directional tone mapping, allowing creators to exploit higher peak luminance, deeper color saturation, and stronger contrast. This results in brighter highlights, cleaner mid-tones, and more consistent results across day and night viewing. Additionally, smoother motion is achieved through the integration of Authentic Motion technology.

Hisense will be the first brand to commit support for Dolby Vision 2. The only TV manufacturer that has so far officially announced support for this new generation is Hisense; no other manufacturers have been publicly named as supporters yet. The new system will ship in two tiers: Dolby Vision 2 Max for high-end OLED and RGB mini-LED hardware, and a standard Dolby Vision 2 profile for mainstream sets.

Light Sense, another new feature, combines ambient-light sensing with reference lighting data from the content to preserve contrast and color in bright or dim rooms. Sports and Gaming Optimisation introduces white-point and motion tweaks for fast action and competitive play. Precision Black aims to improve clarity in dark scenes without overriding artistic intent.

He can be seen playing a variety of games, including Valorant, World of Tanks, HITMAN, and the occasional Age of Empires, among others. Mithun is also the voice behind hundreds of our platform videos.

However, there are open questions about exact ship dates, TV brand support for Dolby's two-tier scheme, and creator adoption of the added metadata and motion tools. As more manufacturers announce their support for Dolby Vision 2, viewers can look forward to a more immersive and dynamic viewing experience.

In a significant move, CANAL+ has positioned itself as a pioneer in the delivery of Dolby Vision 2 experiences. Existing Dolby Vision content will play on current TVs, but the new capabilities are only realized on Dolby Vision 2 sets. This means that viewers with Dolby Vision 2 sets will be able to enjoy a more vibrant and dynamic viewing experience, setting a new standard for HDR content.

In conclusion, Dolby Vision 2 represents a significant step forward in HDR technology. With its AI-assisted Content Intelligence, bi-directional tone mapping, and Authentic Motion, it promises a more immersive and dynamic viewing experience. As more manufacturers announce their support for Dolby Vision 2, viewers can look forward to a more vibrant and dynamic future of HDR content.
