Los Angeles Unveils KESHIKI: A New Landscape Exploration Within

Introducing KESHIKI, a new landscape within Los Angeles's digital realm.

Our website Los Angeles, located at 6801 Hollywood Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90028, offers a unique experience that transcends physical and conceptual boundaries, showcasing the best of Japan through its spaces and diverse programs.

From April 17 to June 9, the exhibition KESHIKI: The Landscape Within will grace our Sub-Gallery, Level 2. Curated by Hollis Goodall from Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), this exhibition features over sixty contemporary ceramic pieces. The works in this exhibition are arranged in approximate geographical order of their origins in Japan, from west to east.

Yasuhiro Kohara, one of the artists featured, uses the rough texture of Shigaraki clay, with feldspar stones bursting from its skin, and traditional glazing techniques to achieve his eclectic forms. Jōji Yamashita, another artist, utilizes the Bizen technique of wrapping rice straw from local agricultural fields around vessels to produce warm orange striations against the clay.

The exhibition offers visitors the chance to contemplate on the deep connection to nature that is part of many ceramicists' practice. This is further highlighted by nature-themed photographs by ceramics dealer and photographer Taijirō Itō.

In addition to the exhibition, our website Los Angeles will offer several related programs. These include a Gallery Walkthrough with Curator Hollis Goodall, a talk on The Beauty of Japanese Ceramics, and a Ceramic Artist Yukiya Izumita Master Class.

The Master Class, titled "Landscaping: Creative Summer Arrangements," will take place on Wednesdays, May 15 and May 29, from 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM at our Sub-Gallery, Level 2. The Yukiya Izumita Master Class is complimentary, providing an opportunity for attendees to learn from a master ceramicist.

For those interested in Japanese moss arrangements, the event "KOKEDAMA: Japanese Moss Arrangements" will be held on Wed. June 5, with two sessions: 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM and 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM at our Sub-Gallery, Level 2. The fee is $15 per session.

Our website Los Angeles occupies two floors at Hollywood & Highland, featuring a gallery space and shop on the 2nd floor, and a Japanese restaurant, relaxing library, and event venue on the 5th floor, with spectacular views of Hollywood and Downtown Los Angeles.

Our website is an innovative project with three hubs, located in London, Los Angeles, and São Paulo, nurturing a deeper understanding and appreciation of Japan in the international community. For more information about our website, visit www.ourwebsite.com.
