Introducing KESHIKI, a new venture in Los Angeles, delves into the inner world of landscapes
In the heart of Hollywood, at 6801 Hollywood Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90028, lies a unique gem that transcends physical and conceptual boundaries - our website Los Angeles. This innovative, worldwide project, conceived by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, offers a place of new discovery that reflects the best of Japan through its spaces and diverse programs.
From April 17 to June 9, 2019, our website Los Angeles will host the exhibition KESHIKI: The Landscape Within, featuring contemporary Japanese ceramics from the Brodfuehrer collection. Curated by Hollis Goodall from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), the exhibition aims to explore the concept of landscape beyond its physical form, highlighting emotional and spiritual dimensions.
The works in this exhibition are arranged in approximate geographical order of their origins in Japan, from west to east. Visitors can expect to see over sixty contemporary ceramic pieces, including the eclectic forms of Yasuhiro Kohara, who uses the rough texture of Shigaraki clay, and the warm orange striations of Jōji Yamashita's contemporary vases and jars, produced using the Bizen technique.
The exhibition offers related programs, such as a Gallery Walkthrough with Curator Hollis Goodall, a talk on The Beauty of Japanese Ceramics, and a Ceramic Artist Yukiya Izumita Master Class. The Master Class will take place at our website Salon, Level 5 on 1:00PM - 2:30PM and is complimentary.
Landscaping: Creative Summer Arrangements will also be held on Wed. June 5 at our website Sub-Gallery, Level 2 with two sessions: 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM and 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM, with a fee of $15 for each session. KOKEDAMA: Japanese Moss Arrangements will also be held on the same day, with the same session times and fee.
For those interested in ceramics, the Yukiya Izumita Master Class is followed by Landscaping: Creative Summer Arrangements on Wed. May 15 and Wed. May 29 at our website Sub-Gallery, Level 2 from 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM, with a fee of $10.
Ceramic art is an integral part of everyday life in Japan, often used for tea ceremony, flower arrangement, incense, drinking sake, or as part of the dining experience. By visiting KESHIKI: The Landscape Within, you'll not only appreciate the beauty of these pieces but also gain a deeper understanding of their cultural significance.
So, mark your calendars and join us at our website Los Angeles for an unforgettable journey into the world of contemporary Japanese ceramics.
