Investigation expands on former abbot concerning financial misconduct in hospice temple

In Lop Buri province, the investigation into the alleged embezzlement of temple donations at Wat Phrabat Namphu has taken a significant turn. The former abbot of the temple, Phra Alongkot Phoolmook, and Seksan Sapsubbsakul, also known as "Mor Bee", are under scrutiny.

Mor Bee, who played a prominent role in the temple's fundraising activities, is suspected of misusing temple donations. More witnesses have come forward with information about the alleged embezzlement, and indictments are expected to extend to all those implicated, including celebrities, influencers, and politicians.

A key figure in the investigation is Sompong Nakhonthaisong, a former monk and well-known preacher. He admitted borrowing 13 million baht from Phra Alongkot during the Covid-19 pandemic. Mr. Sompong claimed the money was used to alleviate financial hardship, including caring for his bedridden mother. However, it is important to note that no formal loan contract was ever signed between Mr. Sompong and Phra Alongkot.

Mr. Sompong, in an act of merit, pledged to repay more than he borrowed, raising the total to 14 million baht. Yet, a partial repayment of 5.5 million baht has been made so far. Investigators have a significant amount of evidence but are seeking additional financial records.

The duo's network functioned like a business enterprise, with staff managing donations and coordinating the flow of money. The total losses from the alleged embezzlement could potentially reach "tens of billions of baht" due to nationwide collection. If it is proven that temple funds were misused for loans, the case could escalate further, as such resources are strictly reserved for religious and public benefit purposes.

In a related development, members of the Phutthasathan Lop Buri Sri Suwannaphum Foundation, established by Phra Alongkot, are expected to meet police to provide testimony. The estimated damages are now estimated to be 10 billion baht. A formal press conference will be held once sufficient evidence has been consolidated.

The name of the last monk who admitted in a TV show to borrowing 13 million baht from Phra Alongkot is Udomsak Srisuk. The investigation is ongoing, and the public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to temple donations.
