The House of Representatives, under the leadership of Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, has announced a thorough investigation into an alleged "unfair" recruitment exercise within the Green Chamber of the National Assembly.

The investigation, to be conducted by the House Committee on Public Service Matters, will delve into the recruitment process, which is overseen by the National Assembly Commission. The committee's mandate includes ensuring transparency, inclusiveness, and fairness in the recruitment process.

Rotimi, Spokesman for the House of Representatives, has maintained that reports alleging unfair recruitment are largely misleading. He emphasized that informal conversations and remarks from House WhatsApp groups are being misinterpreted as official positions.

The recruitment exercise is the sole responsibility of the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC), a statutory and independent body. The NASC is tasked with ensuring that the recruitment process follows principles of Federal Character, inclusiveness, and merit, ensuring fair representation of Nigerians across states and geopolitical zones.

The House operates on principles of equity, justice, and fairness. Internal disagreements are addressed through established parliamentary mechanisms, not speculative newspaper reports. Members are free to express opinions in both formal and informal settings, but such expressions do not constitute resolutions or positions of any caucus.

The House leadership, through the Appropriations Committees, has been engaging the Minister of Finance to address delayed payments, a national challenge not exclusive to constituency projects nominated by House members. The leadership stressed that agitations by some members must be understood within current fiscal realities and not misrepresented.

The House of Representatives comprises 360 members from various political, ethnic, and religious backgrounds, reflecting the diversity of Nigeria. Despite speculations of an impending "showdown" at plenary, the House remains united under the leadership of Abbas Tajudeen.

Members face pressure from constituents expecting nominated projects to be implemented in line with participatory development. The House is scheduled to resume on September 23, 2025, and members are urged to support this process in the collective interest of the institution and the nation.

The House leadership remains steadfast in upholding transparency, inclusiveness, and fairness in its constitutional mandate of lawmaking, oversight, and representation. The investigation into the alleged unfair recruitment process is a testament to the House's commitment to maintaining the highest standards of integrity and accountability.
