Investigation underway at a discount store following reports of a attempted theft - potential witnesses urged to come forward
On the evening of Thursday, July 16, 2025, an attempted robbery occurred at a discount store located on Scheideweg Street in Gelsenkirchen.
Two masked individuals entered the store, while a third waited outside. The perpetrators, described as being between 17 and 25 years old, were dressed in either dark or black clothing. One of them, who was wearing a red jacket and jeans, demanded a 54-year-old employee from Dorsten to open the cash register and go to the safe, while holding a knife and striking the woman.
Another suspect threatened a 30-year-old employee from Bottrop with an electric stun gun to allow access to the safe. The branch manager, a 28-year-old from Gladbeck, noticed the commotion at the cash register and confronted the suspects.
Despite their attempts, the suspects fled the store without any loot. Two of them headed towards the nearby park, while the third fled via an e-scooter towards Gladbeck.
The victims in the incident were the 54-year-old employee from Dorsten, the 30-year-old employee from Bottrop, and the branch manager. An ambulance was called to provide medical care for the injured 54-year-old employee.
