Investigation Update: Flame erupts at food manufacturing facility in Elmshorn, prompting emergency response by firefighters and THW (Technical Rescue Unit) for containment

In an unexpected turn of events, a fire broke out last night at around 11:30 p.m. in a pellet press at a food processing facility in Elmshorn. The initial incident was quickly contained by the local fire department, who are currently on the scene.

According to the latest reports, the fire was caused by fine particles entering the silo through the ventilation system. The affected silo contained 10 to 15 cubic meters of grain dust, which contributed to the spread of the fire.

The food processing company, undisclosed at this time, is taking immediate steps to address the situation and prevent further incidents. They are constructing a special device for removing and extinguishing the material from the silo. The extinguishing work is labor-intensive and expected to take several more hours to complete.

The recovery of the production residue can begin only after the extinguishing work is completed. The affected company is also taking measures to ensure the safety of their employees and the surrounding community.

A follow-up inspection revealed another fire in a 60-cubic-meter silo. The fire department has confirmed that the situation is under control, and they are working diligently to extinguish this fire as well.

20 personnel from the volunteer fire departments of Elmshorn and Seester are currently on site, ensuring that the fire is extinguished safely and efficiently. The fire department's efforts were successful in extinguishing the fire in the pellet press during the night.

At this time, there is no information available about the owner or management of the food factory in Elmshorn where the fire occurred. The company is cooperating with the fire department and local authorities to resolve the situation as quickly and safely as possible.

The food processing facility in Elmshorn is not the first to experience such an incident. Grain dust fires are a known hazard in the food industry, particularly in facilities that handle large volumes of grain and use machinery that generates fine particles.

As the extinguishing work continues, the community and the industry as a whole will be closely monitoring the situation and the steps taken by the affected company to prevent future incidents.
