Investigative Body: National Tribunal Commission (NTC)

The Government of India has proposed the establishment of the National Tribunal Commission (NTC), a corporate body designed to oversee and administer all national and state-level tribunals in the country. The move aims to address administrative inefficiencies and ensure uniform administration across all tribunals.

The NTC will be governed by a Board, consisting of diverse stakeholders, and led by a Chairperson. A CEO will manage the daily operations of the NTC, while a Secretariat will be established to separate judicial and administrative functions within the NTC for better efficiency.

The corporatized structure of the NTC enables better scalability and administrative support. It will be responsible for appointing tribunal members, overseeing disciplinary proceedings, and conducting judicial impact assessments and evaluating tribunal performance.

One of the key benefits of the NTC is the separation of judicial and administrative functions within the tribunals. This separation is expected to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the tribunals.

Justice Prakash Shrivastava currently serves as the Chairperson of the National Green Tribunal and joined his position on August 23, 2023. The NTC will oversee all national and state-level tribunals, including the National Green Tribunal.

The NTC's role is crucial in ensuring that the tribunals operate independently and efficiently. By independently appointing, supervising, and managing tribunals, the NTC aims to improve the administration of justice in India.

In conclusion, the establishment of the National Tribunal Commission is a significant step towards improving the administration of justice in India. The NTC's corporate structure, separation of judicial and administrative functions, and focus on efficiency and effectiveness are expected to lead to a more streamlined and efficient tribunal system in the country.
