Investigative pursuit of potential eyewitnesses
In the early hours of Tuesday, August 19th, several power outages were reported in the Leverkusen districts of Manfort, Schlebusch, Quettingen, Alkenrath, Küppersteg, and Bürig. The cause was soon discovered: unknown individuals had spray-painted swastikas on power boxes throughout these areas.
Officers from the Opladen and Wiesdorf police stations discovered the graffiti throughout the day. The affected locations also included Borsigstraße, Schlebuscher Straße, Alkenrather Straße, the Alte Landstraße, Opladener Straße, Stüttekofener Straße, and Von-Ketteler-Straße. Additionally, power boxes in Leverkusen's Willy-Brandt-Ring, Hornpottweg, Mülheimer Straße, and Saarstraße were also vandalized.
As of now, there are no leads on suspects or motives. The police are urgently seeking witnesses who may have observed suspicious activities between 6 PM on Monday, August 18th, and 7 AM on Tuesday. The state protection department of the criminal police is currently investigating over 20 cases for property damage and the use of unconstitutional organization symbols. The authorities remind the public that such acts are not only illegal but also offensive and harmful to the community.
