iPhone 16 sales are falling short of Apple's expectations, according to one analyst's assessment.
Apple has announced a series of updates for the end of 2024 and early 2025, with the highly anticipated iPhone 16 taking centre stage.
The iPhone 16, released alongside iOS 18, is set to be the most capable non-Pro Apple smartphone to date. It boasts extra buttons like Camera Control and Action Button, and an exciting new feature: the ability to capture spatial pictures and videos.
Despite a production cut reported by Ming-Chi Kuo from KGI Securities, Apple is not expected to decrease the number of iPhone 16 Pro models. However, the reduction in production is expected to impact the first two quarters of 2025, potentially leading to a slight dip in iPhone sales going into early 2024.
As for the AI capabilities, the iPhone 16 is expected to get all new Apple Intelligence features, while users will have to wait longer for AI image generation, which is expected in iOS 18.2. The new iPad mini is AI-capable, and the iPad 11 could support AI in 2025.
Meanwhile, Apple is not resting on its laurels. Tim Cook's company is set to release more AI-capable products, including MacBook Pros, Mac minis, and iMacs with M4 chips, by the end of October or early November.
The fabled Siri overhaul, allowing access to user data across devices, is expected to release next year. Users can expect the first few AI features of iOS 18, like Writing Tools, on October 28.
However, it seems that the iPhone 15 Pro's promise of Apple Intelligence did not translate into sales, with sales being down in early 2024. There's a chance the iPhone sales could be boosted by the rumoured iPhone SE 4, with AI support expected to launch early next year.
In a surprising move, Apple is reportedly planning to wind down Vision Pro production in November. The company is said to have scaled back production of the Vision Pro, with a reported cap of between 500,000 and 600,000 headsets.
Previously, Kuo estimated shipments of around 84 million iPhones for the end of 2024, but this has been revised to an estimated 80 million. Despite the production cut, it remains to be seen how this will impact Apple's overall sales figures for the year.
As always, Apple continues to push the boundaries of technology, promising an exciting future for its users. Stay tuned for more updates as we approach the release of these new products.
