Irish diplomatic authority voicing worry about the event in Berlin

In Berlin-Mitte on Thursday evening, several hundred police officers dispersed an unauthorized gathering related to the Middle East conflict near Hackescher Markt. The incident, which saw incidents of insults, physical attacks, and resistance against police officers, has since been under investigation by the Berlin police.

Around 100 people were moving back and forth between Rosenthaler Platz and Hackescher Markt during the gathering. However, no assembly leadership could be identified, leading to the dispersal of the event.

One of the incidents that have drawn significant attention is a physical altercation between Berlin police and pro-Palestinian protesters from Ireland. A video has emerged showing a police officer slapping a pro-Palestine demonstrator, and another showing a police officer punching a woman in the face twice during the rally.

In response to these incidents, the Berlin police have identified the officers involved and are examining their behaviour to determine if it was proportionate. As of yet, no investigation against the officers has been initiated.

The woman, who sustained injuries including a broken arm and a nosebleed, according to Irish broadcaster RTE, was arrested by the Berlin police on Thursday evening. However, her name or further details were not provided in the available search results.

The incident has sparked concern among high-ranking officials, including Irish Ambassador Maeve Collins, who have contacted German authorities to express their worries. The Irish Foreign Ministry has also confirmed receiving information about the incident from the German Press Agency.

The investigations include charges for the use of symbols of unconstitutional and terrorist organizations, physical attack on and resistance against law enforcement officers, insults, bodily harm, and suspected illegal residence. The Berlin police have provisionally arrested 94 people and initiated 96 investigations.

As the investigations continue, the Berlin police are urging the public to maintain peace and order during protests and demonstrations, and to respect the rights and safety of all individuals involved.
