Isak's Necessity to Demonstrate Capabilities for Team Training Stresses Upon Howe
In a developing transfer saga, Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has expressed uncertainty about the participation of Swedish forward Alexander Isak in training, due to ongoing negotiations regarding a potential move away from the club.
Isak, a 25-year-old striker, expressed his desire for a transfer back in July, prompting several high-profile clubs to show interest. One of these clubs, Liverpool, made an initial offer on August 1, which was rejected by Newcastle. Since then, Liverpool appears to have hesitated in pursuing the deal further, with no follow-up inquiries reported.
The £110 million offer submitted by Liverpool last Friday was also rejected by Newcastle, a sum that would have made Isak one of the most expensive signings in English football history. Despite this, Liverpool remains interested in signing Isak, even after acquiring striker Hugo Ekitike.
Meanwhile, Isak has been training alone at his former club, Real Sociedad, amidst the uncertainty surrounding his future. Reports suggest that he returned to Newcastle's training facilities on Monday, but his absence from the pre-season tour in Asia due to a "minor thigh injury" has raised questions about his commitment to the team.
Former Newcastle striker Alan Shearer has criticized the club's summer transfer dealings, labelling it a "mess." However, Howe has emphasized the club's expectations of its players to maintain professionalism and commitment to the team. In a strong assertion, he stated, "No player can expect to act poorly and train with the group as normal."
Isak played a pivotal role in Newcastle's victory over Liverpool in the EFL Cup final last season, scoring 27 goals in 42 matches for the club, helping them secure a spot in the Champions League by finishing fifth in the Premier League.
Following their Far East tour, Newcastle managed to finish with a 1-1 draw against Tottenham in Seoul. Despite the ongoing transfer speculation, the club is moving forward, with Howe maintaining a firm stance on the matter.
In a related transfer situation, FC Bayern Munich, after concluding negotiations involving Isak, has shown no further interest in the player since August 1, 2025. This implies that Bayern has paused further efforts regarding transfers connected to Isak's situation.
Shearer, if Isak cannot be persuaded to stay, has suggested that the club should take a substantial offer if it comes. Howe, however, has not conversed with Isak since Liverpool's bid was submitted, leaving the future of the Swedish forward at Newcastle United uncertain.
