Island-Wide Potato Rally Scheduled for September 27, Encouraging Residents to Trade Shoes for Spuds
The small town of Xanten, Germany, will once again play host to the annual Maltese Moers to Xanten Potato Exchange Action. This event, which has been running for 19 years, is set to take place on Saturday, September 27, from 10 to 15 hours.
Located on Boxtelstraße, left of the drink center, the event aims to clear out unwanted old clothes from wardrobes. Participants can bring their textile donations, which include clothes, bed linen, blankets, towels, handbags, belts, hats, shoes, and duvets, and exchange them for fresh potatoes.
The exchange rate for textiles is 3 kilograms of old clothes for 1 kilogram of brown tubers (potatoes). The potato exchange event is a triple win, benefiting both participants and the Maltese, who receive the textile donations.
The Maltese Moers to Xanten potato exchange action supports the Maltese with textile donations. In addition to clothes, the Maltese also receive kitchen shelves filled with potatoes as a result of the textile donation.
Matthias Leurs, the long-time organizer of the potato action in Xanten, emphasizes the importance of clothing as a resource and rewards donors with fresh potatoes. The event looks forward to many visitors, clothing donations, and conversations.
