Israeli actions in Gaza are deemed genocidal by Turkish Parliament, calling for global intervention
Turkish Parliament Condemns Israel's Actions in Gaza and Calls for International Action
In a significant move, the Turkish parliament has adopted a resolution on Friday, strongly condemning Israel's expanded occupation in Gaza and alleged genocide against the Palestinian people. The resolution, convened under Speaker Numan Kurtulmus for an extraordinary session, was later read aloud in the Turkish parliament.
The resolution criticizes Israel's unlawful decisions and massacres, and calls for the international community to intensify pressure on Israel for a lasting cease-fire and withdrawal of its forces from Gaza. It also urges countries to join the Group of Parliaments in Support of Palestine, founded in Istanbul in April.
The resolution claims that Israel's military operations have escalated massacres and oppression, killing nearly 70,000 people (mostly women and children), wounding over 150,000, and destroying much of Gaza's civilian infrastructure. The Turkish parliament encourages countries to cut military and commercial ties with Israel, as a means to exert pressure.
The resolution states that Israel's decades-long policies of occupation, destruction, and annexation have turned into genocide in Gaza over the past two years. It declares that the Netanyahu government has deliberately condemned the people of Gaza to hunger and famine, confining them to a "death and hunger prison."
The resolution alleges that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his circle seek to annex all Palestinian territories, including Gaza. It does not provide evidence to support its claims of genocide and annexation.
In a related development, Norway has recently seen its sovereign wealth fund sell shares in Caterpillar due to the company's use of bulldozers in Palestinian territories. This move has sparked political debate and demands for a full withdrawal from Israeli investments, effectively representing a boycott measure against Israel.
Turkey also announced that it has severed commercial ties with Israel and closed its airspace to Israeli aircraft. The Turkish government has suggested that Israel's membership in the U.N. and other international bodies should be suspended until it halts its genocidal policies.
The resolution describes this development as a "major success of humanity's conscience." The Turkish parliament emphasizes the two-state solution and urges countries to recognize Palestine. This resolution is a clear indication of Turkey's firm stance on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and its commitment to the cause of peace and justice in the region.
