Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu declares capture of Gaza and initiation of fresh negotiations

The international mediators, comprising the United States, Qatar, and Egypt, have proposed a new ceasefire plan to resume negotiations between Israel and Hamas. The proposal, an adjusted version of a previously negotiated plan by US special envoy Steve Witkoff, aims for a 60-day truce.

According to reports, the proposed ceasefire includes the release of at least 20 believed-to-be-alive hostages, with ten of them being confirmed as living hostages. In exchange, Palestinian prisoners would be freed.

While Hamas has given a positive response to the proposal, Israel has yet to officially respond. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, however, has hinted at new negotiations for a ceasefire with Hamas.

In a separate development, Netanyahu announced the approval of plans to occupy the city of Gaza. This decision was made at a security meeting with Defense Minister Israel Katz and military chiefs. The security cabinet had previously approved the occupation of Gaza's largest city and the evacuation of its population in the south.

Netanyahu stated that the occupation and victory over Hamas go hand in hand. He also ordered negotiations for the release of all hostages and the end of the war on terms acceptable to Israel.

The current ceasefire negotiations have stalled, and it remains to be seen whether this new proposal will lead to a lasting peace between Israel and Hamas, and the safe return of the remaining hostages.
