Israel's Prime Minister Netanyahu pledges retaliation for the Jerusalem assault
In the wake of a violent attack in East Jerusalem on Monday morning, tens of thousands of people took to the streets in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem over the weekend. The protests were aimed at the Israeli government, with protesters calling on former President Donald Trump to pressure the current administration to accept a diplomatic path for peace.
The attack, which took place at a bus stop, involved two armed men who were identified as Palestinian men aged 20 and 21 with no prior criminal record. The suspects were killed by armed civilians, and the incident has since sparked outrage and calls for action.
In response to the attack, the Israeli prime minister has vowed to avenge the attack and escalate military actions in the West Bank and Gaza City. This escalation has led to growing international isolation for Israel, as the Spanish Government announced measures against what it classifies as genocide in Gaza.
The Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced nine measures against the alleged genocide in Gaza in October 2023. The measures include a weapons embargo against Israel, the prohibition of the sale and purchase of arms, and the closure of the airspace for the transport of armaments destined for Israel. However, the details of these measures have not been specified.
The Israeli government has not commented on the Spanish Government's measures, but the announcement has been met with approval by protesters in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. The protesters are calling for an agreement for refugee return and an end to the conflict.
Meanwhile, one of Gaza City's largest buildings was reduced to rubble on Monday, further exacerbating the tensions in the region. As the situation continues to escalate, both sides are urged to seek a diplomatic resolution to the conflict and to prioritise peace and stability in the region.
