On Saturday, August 30, 2022, Turkey marked the 103rd anniversary of its Victory Day, a national holiday commemorating the decisive battle in 1922 that secured Turkish independence. To accommodate the official events and ceremonies, several roads and streets in key areas were closed.

In the historic district of Kaleici, entrances from Tatlipinar Street, Kaleboyu Street, and Sulukule Street were closed. Additionally, entrances from Kececi Meydan Street and the southern Hal Yolu were also restricted.

The closure extended to other significant roads as well. Entrances from 10. Yil Street, Edirnekapi, Oguzhan Street, Sofular Street, Halicilar Street, Akdeniz Street, and Aksemsettin Street were all closed. The traffic disruptions also affected the Ordu Street and Ataturk Boulevard in Aksaray.

One of the most significant closures was Adnan Menderes Boulevard (Vatan Street), which was closed in both directions on Saturday. The closure started at 5:45 a.m. and lasted until the end of the official program. All entrances to Adnan Menderes Boulevard from the D-100 highway (north and south) were closed, and all streets and avenues leading to the boulevard were restricted.

To help mitigate the traffic congestion, drivers were advised to use alternative routes such as Turgut Ozal Millet Street, Fevzipasa Street, Ataturk Boulevard, the D-100 highway, and the O-3 Hal Yolu road.

As Turkey commemorated its Victory Day, the traffic restrictions were a small inconvenience compared to the national significance of the day. The celebrations served as a reminder of the country's rich history and the hard-won independence that continues to be celebrated today.
