Kinetic IT Appoints Major General Murray Thompson AM CSC as Group Executive Advisory & Transformation

Kinetic IT, one of Australia's largest privately owned and operated ICT services providers, has announced the appointment of Major General Murray Thompson AM CSC as Group Executive Advisory & Transformation. Thompson joins Kinetic IT following a distinguished career in the Australian Army, concluding his service in 2024 as a Major General.

Thompson's appointment reinforces Kinetic IT's commitment to delivering secure, sovereign, and customer-centred solutions. With over three decades of military service under his belt, Thompson brings unmatched expertise in leading complex, high-stakes ICT environments.

Thompson served in various senior command and strategic planning roles across cyber, force development, training, and operations. He also served in Afghanistan, Iraq, the Sinai Peninsula, and Germany. In his most recent role, he served as Strategic J6, providing senior-level cyber and communications advice to the Chief of the Defence Force.

As Head of ICT Operations for the Australian Department of Defence, Thompson managed Defence's global ICT networks and cyber security operations. His extensive experience in the field will be invaluable in leading Kinetic IT's Advisory & Transformation portfolio, including digital transformation, automation, cyber security, and IT consulting services.

Kinetic IT's solutions portfolio includes cyber security, digital infrastructure, intelligent workplaces, and systems integration. The company was the first Australian provider to receive accreditation for its globally recognised Service Integration and Management expertise (SIAM Assured status).

In the past 12 months, Kinetic IT has secured major customer wins with Main Roads Western Australia and Landgate. The company was also recognised for the fourth consecutive year as a Deloitte Best Managed Company in 2025.

Kinetic IT continues to invest in the people, partnerships, and platforms that enable Australian organizations to adapt, grow, and thrive in a fast-changing digital landscape. The company was named a leader in the 2024 ISG Provider LensTM survey for ServiceNow Ecosystem Partners.

Inese Kingsmill, Lisa Keogh, and Lara Barnett (Vandersluis) have been appointed as key executives and board members recently. Thompson will be based in Canberra, well-placed to work closely with organisations across both public and private sectors.

Kinetic IT delivers its solutions with a security-first and onshore delivery model. Thompson's appointment aligns with the company's strategy to build a stronger, more adaptive Australian technology partner. Under Thompson's leadership, Kinetic IT is poised to drive innovation in IT services, particularly in AI-driven digital transformation and low-code application development.

Michael North, CEO of Kinetic IT, stated, "We are thrilled to have Major General Thompson join our team. His extensive experience, leadership, and strategic vision will be instrumental in driving our digital transformation initiatives and delivering superior value to our customers."
