Italian opera competition bestows four awards upon Kazakh vocalist
Kazakh Soprano Aigirim Altynbek Triumphs at the Concorso Lirico Internazionale di Portofino
Aigirim Altynbek, a talented soprano from Kazakhstan, has made history by becoming the absolute winner of the prestigious Concorso Lirico Internazionale di Portofino (CLIP) in Italy. This marks the first time a representative from Central Asia has demonstrated such confident and undisputed leadership in the competition.
The CLIP jury, comprising leading impresarios, directors, and managers of Europe's major opera houses, awarded Altynbek the first prize and the Emotion Prize, which is given to the performer who best captivates the audience. The musical critic, art director, and pedagogue Carlo Meyer presented the awards to Altynbek.
Altynbek's victory comes after she advanced to the final of the XI International Opera Competition CLIP-2025, where she competed against nine other talented performers. The final took place in the picturesque town of Portofino, with the performers participating in the gala concert accompanied by the Teatro Carlo Felice orchestra in the central square of Portofino.
Altynbek's success in the competition is a testament to her exceptional talent and dedication. She has already won three international vocal competitions and placed in several others, including the Queen Sonja International Music Competition and the Tchaikovsky Competition.
The Foundation of Ibáñez-Atkinson, which collaborates with leading theaters and develops its own youth program in collaboration with the opera theater in Santiago, chose to support a non-European singer on the South American continent for the first time by sponsoring Altynbek. This is an important step towards expanding the international career of the Kazakh artist beyond Europe.
In addition to her CLIP victory, Altynbek has performed alongside world opera stars José Carreras and Andrea Bocelli in June. She was also awarded the prize for best female voice by the Foundation of Ibáñez-Atkinson. Most recently, she was accepted into La Scala's young artist program, further cementing her place among the world's top opera talents.
The Foundation of Ibáñez-Atkinson is dedicated to finding and supporting young talented vocalists worldwide. By recognising and supporting Altynbek's talent, they have not only given her the opportunity to showcase her exceptional skills on a global stage, but they have also opened the door for other non-European singers to follow in her footsteps.
Altynbek's victory at the Concorso Lirico Internazionale di Portofino is a shining example of the power of talent and determination. As she continues to make her mark on the opera world, there is no doubt that we will be hearing much more from this extraordinary artist in the future.
