Ivy-league of Agriculture Institutes: IARI Claims Top Spot in NIRF Rankings 2025, NDRI and PAU Maintain Second and Third Positions; Explore the Entire Ranking List Below

The Union Ministry of Education released the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025 on September 04, 2025. This year's rankings assessed institutions across 17 categories, including a new SDG category.

In the Agriculture and Allied Sectors category, the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) in New Delhi secured the top spot. IARI, the premier agricultural research and education institution in India, scored an impressive 89.23 points in the NIRF 2025 rankings.

The Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) in Izatnagar, UP, followed closely in fifth place, while the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) in Ludhiana, Punjab, stood third. Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in Varanasi, UP, and Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Science and Technology secured the fourth and seventh positions, respectively.

Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University in Hisar, Haryana, and G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology in Pantnagar, Uttarakhand, rounded out the top ten, holding the tenth and ninth positions, respectively.

ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI), Karnal, retained its second place in the Agriculture and Allied Sectors category with 75.87 points. Dr. Anupama Singh, Joint Director (Education) at IARI, and Dr. Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director of IARI, received the award on behalf of the institute in the SDG Institutions ranking. PAU's Vice-Chancellor Satbir Singh Gosal received the award at the Delhi ceremony.

The NIRF rankings serve as a valuable guide for students, parents, and policymakers by evaluating institutions across multiple categories. This year's rankings, published at nirfindia.org, provide insights into the performance of various institutions in India and can help shape future educational policies and decisions.

Notably, IIT Madras retained the top position in the overall NIRF 2025 rankings, followed by IISc Bengaluru and IIT Bombay. Universities ranked outside the top 10 in the Sustainable Development Goals and Engineering categories include those placed 11th or lower, but specific names are not listed here.

These rankings underscore the importance of research and education institutions in driving India's development and progress, particularly in critical sectors such as agriculture and allied sciences.
