The Sir William Lyons Trophy: Empowering the Next Generation of Automotive Journalists

The Sir William Lyons Trophy, a prestigious competition for young writers in automotive journalism, has been relaunched by our website in partnership with Jaguar and the Guild of Motoring Writers. Named after the founder of Jaguar, Sir William Lyons, this trophy was first presented in 1966 and has a rich history of launching the careers of many prominent automotive journalists.

The competition is open to individuals aged between 17 and 21 who do not currently hold a staff position on a motoring publication. This year's winner will have their work published in a print edition of our website and will be offered a week's work experience at our Twickenham offices.

Entries for the competition should be submitted via the Guild of Motoring Writers website and must be written in the style of our website's popular "Why I Love" column. This column, which can be found on our website, showcases a variety of topics that our writers are passionate about, from the humble hatchback to mornings at Le Mans, and even grilles.

Jaguar is proud to continue Sir William Lyons' legacy by fostering and supporting the next generation of creative talent in automotive journalism. The winner of the competition will be crowned later this year, judged by Autocar editor-in-chief Steve Cropley and Jaguar UK director Santino Pietrosanti.

Our website is making a new investment in the next generation of automotive journalists with this competition. In addition, we currently run a thriving apprenticeship scheme that brings in new talent. The Sir William Lyons Trophy competition is part of a tradition of empowering the next generation of writers on our website.

Many prominent automotive journalists have launched their careers on our website, and we are excited to see who the next generation of talent will be. So, if you're aged between 17 and 21, have a passion for automotive journalism, and want to showcase your writing skills, we encourage you to enter the Sir William Lyons Trophy competition. The deadline for entries is yet to be announced, so keep an eye on our website for updates.
