Join OB Boch and Mayor Schüssler for a woodland stroll
In the heart of Pforzheim, a city urgently in need of new industrial areas, a guided walk through the Klapfenhardt Forest is offering interested citizens a unique opportunity to explore a potential candidate for industrial development.
The forest district, spanning a total area of 355 hectares, is dominated by 90 to 100-year-old beech stands, with a mix of oak, silver fir, spruce, Douglas fir, and other tree species. The guided walk, led by Markus Haller, the head of the Environmental Protection Office, will pass through various tree stands, including the "water hole," and an older oak mixed forest in the southeast of the forest (between Tannhoferweg and Kurzentalstraße).
The event, scheduled for Saturday, June 16, at 2 pm, will commence above the restaurant Schlupf at the roundabout, Heidenheimer Straße. Prior registration by June 14 is required due to a limit of 100 participants, considering acoustic considerations.
The forest stands in Klapfenhardt are predominantly mixed forests, with beech trees being the most common. About 40% of the forest area is stocked with younger tree stands (30 to 60 years old). The total area being tested for industrial development is 68 hectares, but the actual area to be developed is likely to be smaller.
The city council has set the direction for further industrial area development in May, and by the end of the year, the areas of Klapfenhardt and Ochsenwälde will be compared with objective figures and findings. The decision about which area will be developed will be made after the comparison results are available.
It is worth noting that a forest claim for industrial areas of this magnitude in Klapfenhardt would correspond to approximately 1% of Pforzheim's total forest area. Some parking spaces are available on site, and arrival by bus line 6 is also possible.
However, the search results do not provide information about the organization that leads the tours through the industrial location candidate Klapfenhardt or the specific points visited during the tours. The event will be cancelled in case of bad weather (thunderstorm, heavy rain).
Pforzheim, with approximately 5,000 hectares or 50% of its municipal area being forest, is home to a rich and diverse forest ecosystem. This guided walk offers a rare chance to witness the beauty of the Klapfenhardt Forest while gaining insights into the city's industrial development plans.
