Juvenile Collective Achieves Victory Twice Over at the Curragh, Thanks to Wootton Bassett's Guidance
In a week filled with exciting races and promising young talent, Irish horse racing has once again proven its prowess on the global stage. Here are some of the most notable events that took place.
Group 2 Futurity Stakes Triumph for Constitution River
The Group 2 Futurity Stakes at the Curragh saw a thrilling victory for Constitution River, ridden by Wayne Lordan. The six-figure purchase at Arqana's August Sale, Constitution River crossed the finish line two lengths ahead of the competition, securing a well-deserved win for its owner.
Moyglare Stud-Homebred Suzie Songs Finishes Second in Group 2 Debutante Stakes
In a closely contested Group 2 Debutante Stakes, Ger Lyons' trainee Suzie Songs, a Moyglare Stud-homebred, finished a commendable second. The Debutante Stakes, known for producing Group 1 winners and successful broodmares, has a rich history, with previous winners including Rumpelstiltskin, Again, Lillie Langtry, Maybe, and Rhododendron.
Successful Broodmares Bumbasina and Epona Plays
Bumbasina, a daughter of Canford Cliffs, has had a remarkable career as a broodmare. She produced the Group 1 Northerly Stakes winner Amelia's Jewel and the Group 3 winner Bosustow by Blue Point. Epona Plays, a half-sister to Bumbasina, is also a successful broodmare, having sired the Group 2 Ridgewood Pearl Stakes winner, Composing.
Composing's Impressive Start to Career
Composing, a daughter of Australia, bred by Renzo Forni and out of the Group 2 Ridgewood Pearl Stakes winner Epona Plays, has started her career impressively. She has won three of her four starts, with her most recent victory being the Group 3 Silver Flash Stakes at Leopardstown.
Notable Foals and Sales
Chuppy, a Le Havre full-sister to Wonderful Tonight, a Group 1 Prix de Royallieu and British Champions' Fillies and Mares winner, has produced two notable foals. Her first foal, Constitution River, won the Group 2 Futurity Stakes at the Curragh, while her second foal, a filly by Mehmas, sold for €300,000 at Arqana last weekend. Lot 129 at Tattersalls Book 1 is a Lope De Vega half-brother to Composing, offered by Ridge Manor Stud.
Other Notable Races
Wootton Bassett sired a juvenile Group 2 double at the Curragh on Saturday afternoon. Meanwhile, a related story saw Never So Brave giving No Nay Never a top-level 1-2 at York.
Despite two unplaced finishes in France, Chuppy's racing career is overshadowed by her success as a broodmare. The owner of the Composing filly offered as Lot 129 in Tattersalls Book 1 is Chevet Bloodstock.
As the racing season continues, we look forward to seeing more exciting performances from these talented horses and their trainers.
