Kazakhstan Speeds Up Industrial Upgrading and Polarization
In the year 2025, Kazakhstan witnessed significant strides in its mining industry, attracting international investments and discovering substantial mineral reserves.
The government's efforts to digitize and streamline processes paid off, as the Unified Subsoil Use Platform (USP) was launched. This platform automated licensing procedures, streamlined auctions, and ensured open access to geological data, making it easier for investors to navigate the country's mining landscape.
The USP, which houses over 66,000 geological reports and provides 22 fully digitized state services, was instrumental in attracting approximately 2.78 billion US dollars in investments from international companies. These investments led to the establishment of new industrial centres in regions such as Pavlodar, Aktobe, and East Kazakhstan.
The government also allocated 7.6 billion tenge (US$14 million) in 2025 to accelerate geological exploration and attract more investors. This investment bore fruit, with the discoveries adding an estimated 97.8 tons of gold, 11.9 tons of silver, and 36,400 tons of copper to Kazakhstan's resources.
Over the first seven months of the year, authorities issued 506 new exploration licenses, 18 production licenses, and 114 permits for geological research. These efforts led to the official registration of five new deposits of solid minerals, contributing to the country's resource reserves.
In addition, 73 new exploration sites were included in the program, covering a total area of 2,652.5 square kilometers. The government is also planning to redirect 50% of signature bonuses towards financing state geological studies.
Recent amendments to the mining laws will further boost the industry, with 50% of signature bonuses being redirected towards financing state geological studies. The government is also scheduled to submit a new bill focusing on digitalization and auction procedures to Parliament in the third quarter of 2025.
All in all, 2025 was a banner year for Kazakhstan's mining industry, with significant investments, discoveries, and reforms driving the sector forward.
