World Poker Tour (WPT) $5 Million GTD Festival Continues in Cyprus
The World Poker Tour (WPT) $5 Million GTD Festival is in full swing at the Chamanda Prestige Hotel & Casino in Cyprus, with a week of poker action already underway. The festival, which started on August 7, offers various events including No Limit Hold'em, Pot Limit Omaha, Bounty, and Speed Up events.
One of the main events, the WPT Cyprus Championship, started today and runs until August 18. The tournament offers three starting flights, with players starting with a 50,000 stack and playing 60-minute levels. The $3,500 buy-in event boasts a $2 million GTD prize pool.
WPT Global Ambassador Romulo Dorea is among the participants in the tournament. Other notable players include Stephen Barnes, Ray Qartomy, Matt Davenport, WPT commentator Tony Dunst, and Will Kassouf. Five WPT Global qualifiers, Maksym Danylov, Linda Nguyen, Emil Wydra, Sakandar Nayab, and Kristoffer Skolem, are also taking part in the tournament.
The Last Chance event with a $150,000 GTD prize pool is scheduled for Sunday, August 17, with a 30-minute clock and 8 levels of late registration. The WPT Championship Day 2 is scheduled for Saturday, August 16, with a $2 million GTD prize pool and a 60-minute clock.
Linda Nguyen, a rising poker star, demonstrated her skills in a hand against Camerion Williamson during Level 2 of the WPT Cyprus Championship. In the hand, Nguyen called a check-raise from Williamson on the river with A♦J♣, beating his K♦8♠.
The Chamanda Super High Roller Final Day is also scheduled for Sunday, August 17, with a $300,000 GTD prize pool and a 30-minute clock. The Chamanda High Roller Final Table is taking place with a $500,000 GTD prize pool.

In 2025, the WPT Cyprus Championship took place at the Chamada Prestige Hotel, where Georgian player Ilia Kitsbabahvili dominated the festival, winning two side events and ultimately capturing the Main Event title.
