King Charles III and Prince Harry to reconnect, while Prince William maintains a distance from reconciliation, according to recent reports
After a prolonged period of estrangement, Prince Harry and his father, King Charles III, are set to reunite in London next month. The Duke of Sussex has not seen his father since February 2022, and King Charles, at 76 years old, is eager to mend the relationship.
According to reports, the reunion is scheduled for September 8, a significant date as it marks the anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's death. During his visit, Prince Harry will attend the annual WellChild Awards, an event close to his heart that supports children with serious illnesses.
Meanwhile, Meghan Markle will remain in Montecito, Calif., with their children, Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4. The Duchess of Sussex has not been back to England since attending Elizabeth's funeral in September 2022.
The desire for reconciliation between father and son appears to be mutual. A source close to the situation stated, "Nobody is pretending that the wider family issues have been resolved, but this is about beginning reconciliation between Charles and Harry." Harry himself has expressed his desire for peace, stating in May, "There is no point in continuing to fight."
However, tensions remain within the royal family. Prince William, Harry's brother, is reportedly "reluctant" to reconcile due to a "persistent lack of trust" in Meghan Markle. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have repeatedly aired their grievances during a docuseries, a viral interview, and more, straining their relations with Harry's family.
Despite these challenges, there is a determination on both sides to make the reunion happen. Harry's team and Buckingham Palace have reportedly opened a line of communication, and the Duke has shared his official schedule with the royal family.
While Meghan Markle will not be present for the reunion, it is hoped that this face-to-face conversation between Prince Harry and King Charles will mark the first step towards healing the rift within the royal family. For now, there is every hope that father and son will see each other when the Duke returns to London in September after 20 months apart.
