Kuwait Redefines Security Sector, Uncompromising Stance on Transgressions

In the heart of the Gulf, Kuwait is undergoing a significant transformation in its security sector. This transformation, spearheaded by Sheikh Fahed Al-Yousef Al-Sabah, the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, is making a tangible impact on the daily lives of its citizens.

Sheikh Fahed's efforts have been multifaceted, addressing a range of issues from narcotics trafficking to visa fraud and traffic violations. By August 2025, over 3,200 individuals related to narcotics trafficking were arrested, including high-profile traffickers and over 150 local distribution dens. A major bust at Shuwaikh port in February 2025 led to the dismantling of a regional narcotics smuggling network, yielding 1.3 million narcotic pills.

The interior ministry, under Sheikh Fahed's leadership, has also been active in combating alcohol production and trafficking. Over 1,000 suspects were arrested, and more than 150 clandestine alcohol production operations were shut down, many hidden inside private homes and remote warehouses.

Sheikh Fahed's reforms extend beyond law enforcement. He has been instrumental in curbing security violations, restoring order, and reviving public confidence in state institutions. The ministry has emphasized transparency, fairness, and accountability, implementing biometric systems, digital case management, and smart applications.

The review of citizenships has uncovered complex schemes involving falsified family records, forged birth certificates, and manipulated residency papers. As a result, approximately 50,000 citizenships have been revoked as of August 2025. Sheikh Fahed has led an unprecedented campaign to address national security issues, including the revocation of tens of thousands of fraudulent citizenships.

The Interior Ministry's vision is not limited to these achievements. Looking ahead, the ministry plans to deepen these reforms through strategic security plans that involve deploying more surveillance systems, expanding cooperation with neighbouring states, and continuing to dismantle organized crime networks.

The support for Sheikh Fahed's reform efforts comes from various quarters. His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah are leading Kuwait's security transformation. State agencies, the Ministry of Social Affairs, civil society institutions, and the Social Reform Society are all cooperating under the Amir’s directives and state supervision to implement broad legislative and social reform programs.

The public response to these security operations has been overwhelmingly positive. Citizens and residents are expressing relief at the decline in crime and the safer environment on Kuwait's streets. More than 500,000 traffic violations were recorded, thousands of vehicles seized for dangerous conduct, and public awareness campaigns have improved pedestrian safety.

In conclusion, Sheikh Fahed Al-Yousef Al-Sabah's leadership in Kuwait's interior and security sectors is driving significant changes. His commitment to transparency, fairness, and accountability, coupled with the support of key figures and institutions, is shaping a safer and more secure future for Kuwait. The Supreme Committee for Investigating Nationality, headed by Sheikh Fahed, is committed to handling cases with "integrity, sincerity, and dedication to Kuwait."
