La Mirada Council candidate Ion Sarega's local property in La Mirada is in arrears and scheduled for auction.

In the heart of La Mirada, California, a property located at 15335 San Bruno Dr. is set to undergo a public auction due to a tax default. The property, which has an assessed value of $232,000 with annual taxes of $3,900, has been unpaid for at least two years, according to public records.

The owner of the property is Ion Sarega, a La Mirada City Council candidate. However, it appears that his son and former La Mirada Councilman, Andrew Sarega, is listed as the owner in Orange County Title online records. Despite knowing about the property's default status, Andrew Sarega has reportedly done nothing to cure the debt.

The property, which is also encumbered by a weed abatement charge, was previously stated to have the address for correspondence as 15335 San Bruno Dr. It is situated near the intersection of McComber and Stage Road.

The notice of default for this property was published in the La Mirada Lamplighter, an adjudicated paper of La Mirada owned by Hews Media Group. The notice was published on September 20, 27, and October 4, 2024.

If the property does not sell during the first online public auction, it will be listed for purchase at subsequent periodic auctions until sold. The property is subject to a power of sale, meaning the lender can take possession of the property and sell it to recover the outstanding debt.

This tax-defaulted status is not the first time Ion Sarega's property management has come under scrutiny. The property at the intersection of McComber and Stage Road, also owned by Ion Sarega, has not been tax assessed for at least two years, though the person responsible for this oversight is not publicly specified.

As the public auction approaches, the community awaits the outcome and the potential impact on the local real estate market. The situation serves as a reminder for property owners to maintain their tax payments and for candidates seeking public office to uphold the highest standards of financial responsibility.
