Russian Emergency Services Conduct Ice Rescue Drills in Malaya Lagernaya and Lake Mikizha

Russian EMERCOM diving rescue specialists recently participated in a three-day training exercise in Malaya Lagernaya and Lake Mikizha. The drills, which are an ongoing effort to maintain the highest level of preparedness for emergency situations, focused on practicing skills necessary for responding to emergency situations under ice.

The drill leader emphasized the importance of precise actions and team coordination in these challenging conditions. He also stated that the ultimate goal of these drills is to save lives and minimize disaster impacts.

During the exercises, the rescuers tested communication devices, which are crucial for ensuring safety during underwater operations. They also practiced ice navigation skills, where divers had to cut holes in Lake Mikizha and navigate to find other holes using a compass.

Before starting the drills, all participants underwent mandatory medical examinations and checked the functionality of their equipment. This meticulous preparation is essential for ensuring readiness in the event of an emergency.

The drills allow rescuers to practice response algorithms in extreme situations. They are designed to replicate real-life conditions, and the drill leader stressed that they help maintain a high level of professionalism among dive rescue specialists.

The participants in the drills included dive rescue specialists from specialized fire and rescue units, search and rescue teams of the Main Directorate of the MCHS for the Kamchatka Territory, and staff of the KGCU "COD".
