Lamar Jackson speaks out following incident of a Bills spectator striking his helmet during the defeat to Buffalo late in the game
Buffalo Bills Steal Thrilling Victory Over Baltimore Ravens in Epic Comeback
The Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens were set for a highly-anticipated matchup, but the game was overshadowed by an unfortunate incident involving Lamar Jackson and a Bills fan.
In the third quarter, a fan wearing a red jersey reached over the barrier and smacked both Jackson and DeAndre Hopkins on the side of their helmets. The fan was immediately ejected by security and has since been banned indefinitely from NFL stadiums. Jackson was also ejected from the stadium following the incident.
Despite the distraction, Josh Allen put on a strong performance, going 33-of-46 for 394 yards and two touchdowns, and adding two rushing touchdowns in the win. Allen's successful game against Lamar Jackson earned him the first nod of the season over his Super Bowl rival.
The Ravens led 34-19 late in the third quarter, but the Bills staged a remarkable comeback, outscoring Baltimore 22-6 in the fourth to win 41-40. Matt Prater, taking to the field in the absence of the injured Tyler Bass, drilled a game-winning 32-yard field goal to complete the comeback.
Lamar Jackson had a solid game as well, going 14-of-19 for 210 yards and two touchdowns, and adding another 70 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Jackson was asked about the incident after the game and said the fan probably had a couple of beers.
The incident won't deter Jackson from getting close to rival fans in future. "I'm Lamar Jackson, man," he said. "I'm going to be me. I'm going to go out there and play football."
The game was a battle of the MVP favorites, with both Jackson and Allen playing well. Derrick Henry, the Ravens running back, was nearly hit by a thrown beer bottle in the endzone during the game.
The Bills were down 15 points in the fourth quarter and at one stage had only a 1.1 percent chance of winning the game. However, they staged an epic comeback to steal a victory over their AFC rivals in a thrilling game. Buffalo wide receiver Keon Coleman made the contest a one-score game with a rare fumble from Henry in the fourth quarter.
The incident between Jackson and the Bills fan overshadowed what was otherwise a great game between two of the best teams in the AFC. Nonetheless, the Bills will be happy to have come away with the win and will look to build on their momentum as they continue their season.
