British Rowing Beach Sprint Championships 2025 Set to Make a Splash
The British Rowing Beach Sprint Championships is gearing up for an exciting event this August, attracting over 130 competitors and setting a new record. This year's championships, happening from the 30th to the 31st of August, will take place at Knoll Beach in Studland, due to adverse weather conditions.
The competition will feature an impressive lineup of World and national Champions, Four Nations Series winners, and newcomers to beach sprint rowing. Among the notable competitors is Sol Chamberlain-Hyde of Lymington ARC, the reigning World Champion in the Coastal Junior Mixed Doubles, who will be competing in both the Open and Junior competition.
Established coastal clubs are participating in the crew entries for the Mixed Coxed Quads event, a new addition to the Championships this year. Clubs such as Christchurch RC, Lymington ARC, Southsea Rowing Club, Trentham Boat Club, Worcester Rowing Club, and others will be represented in this event.
The Junior Coastal Open Solo competitors include Thomas Biddle (Southsea RC), Valen Giacchetto (Christchurch RC), and Edwin Van Lopik (Bradford RC), who all ranked highly in the Four Nations Series. Thomas Biddle, consistently ranking highly throughout this season's racing, and Valen Giacchetto being the only junior men who raced every event, have gained valuable experience. James Cox of Agecroft RC, the Four Nations Beach Sprint Series winner in the Coastal Open Solo, is also competing.
In the Junior competition, there is a mix of familiar names from the Coastal scene and newcomers to the sport. Leah Saunders (Evesham RC) and Laura McKenzie (Glasgow University BC) will race in the Coastal Women's Solo.
The Championships are taking place on the National Cycle Network (Route Two) and are accessible by bus from Bournemouth or Poole. Spectators can enjoy free on-site parking (for National Trust members), making it easy to watch the action unfold.
The British Rowing Beach Sprint Championships 2025 is the biggest event of its kind this weekend, according to Sarah Gregory, Chair of the Organising Committee. The event is happening with the valued support of Swift Racing UK, with Pete Wells of Swift Racing UK expressing his excitement to be the sponsor of the championships.
Studland Bay is home to the South Coast GB Beach Sprint Performance Development Academy, and the Championships have moved to Knoll Beach in Studland, which is also the location of one of the GB Beach Sprint Performance Development Academies and the location of the English Beach Sprints earlier this year.
