Large-scale playtests for Battlefield 6 return, as Electronic Arts (EA) is determined to steer clear of past shortcomings

In an exciting development for fans of the Battlefield series, Electronic Arts (EA) is reportedly aiming to return the iconic franchise to its glory days of the early-to-mid 2010s. This ambitious project, known as Battlefield 6, is currently in production and is shaping up to be the most extensive playtest programme in the series' history.

Vince Zampella, Head of Respawn and Group General Manager for EA Studios, has shared some insights about the direction of Battlefield 6. According to Zampella, the game is going "back to its roots" with 64 players, all-out destruction, and the return of classes. These elements are reminiscent of the peak or pinnacle of the Battlefield series, as seen in Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4.

Playtests for Battlefield 6 are reportedly back in full swing, with more frequent sessions than ever before. The playtests are primarily focusing on the game's multiplayer and Battle Royale modes. InsiderGaming reports that these playtests are ramping up ahead of some big announcements for the game in the coming months. However, as of now, no specific details about these announcements have been made public.

Battlefield 6 is said to have the highest budget of any game in the Battlefield franchise. Four different studios are working on the project, with the aim of delivering a polished and engaging experience at launch. EA is keen to make a strong impression with Battlefield 6, as some fans were put off by the last two entries (Battlefield 5 and Battlefield 2042).

While details about the game's setting, story, and other features beyond the mentioned gameplay elements are scarce, one thing is certain: Battlefield 6 is set to be a significant milestone in the series' history. The amount of player feedback in the playtests for Battlefield 6 is the most seen in the series' history, indicating a commitment to creating a game that caters to the needs and expectations of the dedicated player base.

Battlefield 6 is set to be officially released on October 10, 2025, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. As more details about the game emerge, fans of the series can look forward to a return to the all-out, large-scale battles that made Battlefield a household name. With a budget larger than any previous game in the series and the expertise of four studios working together, Battlefield 6 promises to be an unforgettable experience.
