Straight Shootin' News: Resorts World Vegas Hires New Chief Compliance Officer

It's time to clean up the casino's act, and gaming attorney Jennifer Roberts' here to make sure it happens for good

Following a messy scandal involving illegal bookmakers making a home at its tables, Resorts World Las Vegas announced on Tuesday the hiring of Jennifer Roberts as its first chief compliance officer. This new addition's job is to make sure such shenanigans never happen again, and the casino stays on the right side of the law.

Roberts, a gaming attorney with over 20 years of experience, will oversee Resorts World's regulatory compliance, registration and licensing, responsible gaming, and anti-money laundering measures. Previously, she was the Vice President and General Counsel at WynnBET, served as the founder of the law firm Roberts Gaming Law, and taught at UNLV while serving as the interim executive director for its International Center for Gaming Regulation.

"Jennifer's extensive knowledge of gaming law and understanding of the casino environment make her the perfect fit to help us build a first-class compliance program," Alex Dixon, Resorts World's CEO, said in a statement.

Resorts World's new compliance czarina will oversee adherence to anti-money laundering laws, including the Bank Secrecy Act, a focus area after the Nevada Gaming Control Board accused the casino of violating when illegal bookmakers were allowed to gamble on its premises between 2022 and 2024.

Last month, the casino's owner, Genting Group, agreed to pay a massive $10.5 million fine, the second-highest in Nevada history, to settle the complaint.

Resorts World has seen significant personnel changes since the scandal, including the ouster of former president and COO Scott Sibella in September 2023, the departures of executives Doni Taube and Richard Corbett in September 2024, and the installments of Dixon last December and Carlos Castro as COO/CFO in February.

Thanks to Sibella, who received a five-year ban on his gaming license, the scandal involved illegal bookmakers Mathew Bowyer and Ippei Mizuhara, and even ensnared MGM Resorts, for whom Sibella served as president of the MGM Grand from 2010 to 2019. MGM also agreed to pay its own $8.5 million settlement to gaming regulators last week.

Before Roberts, compliance for Resorts World was overseen by Tonya Henderson, the Vice President of Compliance, who still lists the job on her LinkedIn page.
