The historical Museum Hanau Schloss Philippsruhe is set to host the special exhibition "People, Tales, Myths: Discover Georg Cornicelius" starting on August 29, 2025. This exhibition is a celebration of the 200th birthday of the renowned Hanau artist, Georg Cornicelius (1825-1898).

Cornicelius' body of work, once characterized by Christian and increasingly somber representations, expanded to include genre, fairy tale, and landscape motifs throughout his career. The exhibition presents works from all phases of his career and selected paintings by his students, offering a comprehensive insight into his artistic journey.

Many of Cornicelius' preparatory drawings are displayed, providing a unique glimpse into his painting process. These works are exhibited alongside his finished paintings, creating a captivating dialogue between the initial ideas and their final realisation.

The exhibition is housed in the attic of Schloss Philippsruhe, which had been a temporary storage facility due to renovations. Now, the rooms are once again available for presentations, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in the world of Georg Cornicelius.

Kindergarten and school groups can now visit the castle during the morning due to the extended opening hours. The museum's new opening hours are Tuesday to Friday from 10 am to 5 pm, Thursday from 10 am to 7 pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to 6 pm. Thursday has been designated as Museum Day, with the museum open for two additional hours and offering lectures and guided tours.

The accompanying program of lectures, tours, and workshops delves into Cornicelius' biography, work, and personal relationships, offering visitors the opportunity to deepen their understanding of this remarkable artist. Festival ticket holders for the Brothers Grimm Festival also have free admission to the castle in the respective calendar year.

Admission is free for children and young people up to 18 years old. For further information about the diverse Hanau museum landscape, visit www.museen-hanau.de.
