Latest Apple Watch Hand Movement: Exclusive to newer device versions under watchOS 26

Apple has announced a new feature for its Apple Watch lineup, allowing users to dismiss incoming notifications and mute calls, alarms, and warnings with a simple wrist gesture. This new feature, which involves rotating the wrist, will be exclusive to the Apple Watch Series 9, Apple Watch 10, and Apple Watch Ultra 2, as well as the Series 6, Series 7, Series 8, SE (2nd generation), and Series 10.

To use the new gesture, users will need an iPhone 11 or later running iOS 26. The public beta version of watchOS 26 is expected to roll out in July, with the public release planned for this fall.

The wrist gesture is made possible by the use of a more powerful chip, a gyroscope, and an accelerometer, which are all necessary for detecting the motion of the wrist gesture. Additionally, a machine learning model is required for the new feature, which is not present in older Apple Watches.

The new wrist gesture can be enabled or disabled in settings under "Gestures" > "Wrist Movement." Apple has not specified the reason for the feature being exclusive to newer Apple Watch models.

With this new feature, Apple Watch Series 9, Apple Watch 10, and Apple Watch Ultra 2 owners will be able to quickly and easily manage their notifications and alerts without having to interact with their watch or iPhone. This is just one of many new features expected to be released with watchOS 26, which will debut alongside iOS 26.

The watchOS 26 beta is currently available in the Apple Developer Program, allowing developers to test and provide feedback on the new operating system. The public beta version is expected to be released in the coming months. Stay tuned for more updates on watchOS 26 and the latest features coming to the Apple Watch lineup.
