Latest fashion trends showcased at the 2025 Met Gala in the world of high-end fashion
The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute Gala returned on Monday, marking a celebration of Black men's style. The event, titled "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style," opened on Saturday and runs through Oct. 26. The dress code for the evening was "Tailored for You."
Celebrities of every gender experimented with sharply tailored menswear-inspired looks at the event. One of the standout ensembles was Lupita Nyong'o's pale blue Chanel pantsuit, complete with a matching hat and a long, sheer cape. Shakira made a dramatic entrance in a pink Prabal Gurung gown with an enormous train.
Athlete and event co-host Simone Biles wore a blue mini skirt with a maxi train by Harbison Studio, while Ayo Edebiri donned a custom Maximilian Davis for Ferragamo outfit featuring a white dress embellished with red glass beads and a black leather coat with floor-sweeping cuffs.
Pinstripes were a popular pattern among suits at the event. Actor Sarah Snook wore a custom satin pantsuit and jacket with a train by AnOnlyChild, and Serena Williams wore a light blue dress and a long duvet-style cape by Moncler x EE72 by Edward Enninful. The designer of Ayo Edebiri's outfit was Maximilian Davis himself.
Musician Jennie Kim from the band Blackpink wore a custom Chanel tailored jumpsuit featuring slim black pants and a gown-length overskirt. Musician Madonna wore a white satin tuxedo with tails by Tom Ford.
Actor Tramell Tillman made a bold statement in a dramatic black Thom Browne pinstriped pants suit with a velvet suit jacket with tails. Formula 1 racer Lewis Hamilton wore a monochrome cream Grace Wales Bonner suit with a matching beret.
André 3000 wore a Burberry x Benji Bixby jumpsuit and strapped a piano to his back. Actor Aimee Lou Wood wore a short tuxedo suit with an attached floor-length side sash by Ahluwalia. Demi Moore let the tail of her black-and-white striped Thom Browne dress, designed to resemble a tie, trail behind her as she climbed the stairs.
Music icon Diana Ross wore a showstopping white custom outfit from Eleven Sixteen by Ugo Mozie, including a cape embroidered with the names of all of her children and grandchildren. Rihanna blended multiple pinstripes in a corseted Marc Jacobs maternity look with a cropped tuxedo jacket.
Athlete Venus Williams wore a custom deep green Lacoste ensemble, including a high-low pleated tennis skirt, polo shirt, and floor-length coat. All-white looks made a dramatic appearance at the event, with Athlete Colin Kaepernick wearing a knee-length cape with his dark red Moncler x EE72 by Edward Enninful pantsuit.
Actor Jodie Turner-Smith paired her slim Burberry pantsuit with a matching full-circle coat and sky-high top hat. Suits were the most popular style of the night, with wide legs, flared legs, and slim cuts being popular silhouettes. Actor Myha'la wore a Luar minidress with an extra-high collar and paired it with thigh-high Timberland boots.
Regé-Jean Page's bright red Brioni suit featured a cape that trailed along the floor, and actor Quinta Bronson wore a white pinstriped dress and matching jacket by Sergio Hudson.
The Met Gala was a night of fashionable celebration, showcasing the diversity and creativity of Black men's style. The exhibition, inspired by Barnard college professor Monica L. Miller's 2009 book, "Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity," promises to continue this exploration of Black style for weeks to come.
