Launched: New Assistance Program for Sirens Announced
In a bid to improve warning systems and prepare for various emergencies, the Siren Enhancement Program 2025 has been launched in Baden-Württemberg. This program is part of a larger effort to boost the population's warning capabilities and is co-financed, suggesting it's a joint initiative between multiple entities.
The program receives funding from both the federal government and the state of Baden-Württemberg, with the latter contributing approximately 700,000 euros, and the federal government contributing around 800,000 euros. This funding is available for communities in Baden-Württemberg to invest in siren infrastructure.
The Siren Enhancement Program 2025 funds various types of sirens, siren control receivers, and related infrastructure. Eligible for funding are rooftop and building-mounted sirens, freestanding mast sirens, and siren control receivers for connecting sirens to the Modular Warning System (MoWaS). Funding amounts per measure range from 1,000 to 17,350 euros, including costs for personnel, electrical installation, or necessary cherry pickers.
Baden-Württemberg has been using the nationwide available satellite-supported MoWaS system for official warnings since October 2016. MoWaS allows various warning media and multipliers to be targeted with a single input, providing a more efficient and effective warning system. Besides the systems connected to MoWaS, communities can also use their own warning means, such as sirens or vehicles for loudspeaker announcements, in case of an emergency.
Thomas Strobl, Deputy Minister-President and Interior Minister, stated that the program is a good investment in the security of society in turbulent times. The Siren Enhancement Program 2025 is aimed at strengthening the population's warning capabilities in Baden-Württemberg against diverse scenarios such as floods, power outages, storms, earthquakes, or hazardous material incidents.
However, there are no publicly available detailed lists or specific information on which cities and municipalities in Baden-Württemberg have applied for subsidies under the Siren Subsidy Program 2025, nor about the expected subsidy amounts for each, based on the current search results.
The Ministry of the Interior, Digitalization, and Communities is involved in the Siren Enhancement Program 2025. In 2024, authorities from communities, cities, districts, and the state sent a total of 260 warning messages via the modular warning system, with the majority coming from communities, cities, and districts.
In conclusion, the Siren Enhancement Program 2025 is a significant step towards improving warning systems in Baden-Württemberg, ensuring the safety and security of its residents in times of emergency.
