Launches Kona's brand new Glee club
New Glee Club Launches in Kona, West Hawaii
A new glee club, the Kona Glee Club, has made its debut in Kona, West Hawaii. Founded by Ilene Cohen Harrington, a 20-year Kona resident with a history of starting organizations, the club aims to provide a platform for individuals to sing and dance to contemporary music.
The club's principal accompanist is Vaina Barton, a Tahiti native with a wealth of musical experience. Nadari Hockhull, an opera specialist and 2025 Hawaiian Idol finalist, has been appointed as the artistic director. Hockhull, who was also a finalist in the Hawaii Idol competition in 2014, will be responsible for designing Zumba-like choreography for the club's performances.
The musical arranger will create upbeat medleys by combining choruses and popular verses from songs by artists like Janet Jackson, Rihanna, Bruno Mars, Black Eyed Peas, Dua Lipa, and Kelly Clarkson. The glee club focuses on contemporary music, with members singing arranged medleys and dancing choreography.
The Kona Glee Club resonates with other West Hawaii residents with performing experience from their youth who were keen to re-engage in their old creative hobbies. The club meets every Monday at the Kona Elks Lodge until early December. A new session will begin in January.
The cost to join the Kona Glee Club is $125 for adults and $65 for high school students.
