On Saturday afternoon at around 16:00, a driverless tractor rolled onto the railway tracks near Schwäbisch Gmünd-Zimmern, causing significant disruption. The tractor, which belonged to an unidentified individual, had been parked 300 meters away from the tracks, according to initial reports.

The tractor is believed to have damaged an overhead line of the railway, leading to the current closure of the railway line between Schwäbisch Gmünd and Bopfingen (Rems). The extent of the damage to the railway infrastructure is still being assessed, and repair and removal operations are ongoing, with railway staff on site.

Police Headquarters Aalen, led by Polizeirat Tobias Ostermann, have confirmed the incident. The Aalen Police Headquarters can be contacted for further inquiries at Boehmerwaldstraße 207, 3431 Aalen, by email at [email protected], or by telephone at (49) 7361/5800. More information about the Aalen Police Headquarters can be found on their official website, www.polizei-bw.de.

Initial investigations suggest that the parking brake on the tractor may have failed, causing it to move on its own. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

As the situation develops, updates will be provided by the Aalen Police Headquarters and the railway authorities. Commuters are advised to check for updates and plan alternative routes if necessary.
