Recklinghausen Police Crack Down on Road Safety Violations

In a bid to enhance safety for vulnerable road users, the Recklinghausen police conducted an action day focusing on cyclists, Pedelec, and e-scooter riders on August 21, 2025.

During the operation, a total of 127 road users were caught speeding, with the police issuing 100 warning fines and having to initiate 27 fine proceedings for speeding violations. The police also checked numerous cyclists and Pedelec riders, issuing warning fines to 43 and initiating fine procedures for five. In addition, a staggering 85 e-scooter riders were stopped, with about a third receiving warning fines. Three people were prohibited from continuing due to technical defects on their e-scooters, and three criminal proceedings were initiated.

The operation took a more serious turn when a car driver was caught driving without a license and possibly under the influence of drugs. The driver, who was apprehended by a police motorcycle officer after driving over a red light at excessive speed on Salentinstraße, was found to have a prohibited switchblade and incapacitating substances in the vehicle. The driver's passenger also tried to flee but was also apprehended.

To educate children about the dangers on the road, the police held detailed conversations with the children and their parents. In Marl, two 12-year-olds were riding together on an e-scooter on Hagenstraße, and a 13-year-old was riding on Lasallestraße. In Haltern am See, an 11-year-old girl was riding an uninsured e-scooter alone, leading to a criminal proceeding against the owner.

It is important to note that the minimum age for using an e-scooter is 14 years, and only one person is allowed per scooter. The police action day aimed to remind road users of these regulations and to promote road safety.
