The German Federal Police Inspectorate Ludwigsdorf has launched an investigation into a suspected case of commercial and organized human smuggling, according to a statement from news aktuell.
The investigations, focused on a 21-year-old Yemeni national, were initiated after the suspect was accused of smuggling 43 third-country nationals into Slovakia in June 2023. The suspect is alleged to have used a Polish rental van for the smuggling operation.
On August 20, 2025, the Federal Police conducted searches in Heide and Lohe-Rickelshof (District of Dithmarschen). The searches resulted in the seizure of several mobile phones and other evidence.
Following the last trip, the suspect caused a traffic accident in Dresden and fled the scene. The vehicle was left behind, enabling a criminal technical investigation. The suspect was later found and questioned.
The Public Prosecutor's Office in Dresden, branch office Pirna, is involved in the investigations. The Federal Police Inspectorate Ludwigsdorf is conducting the investigations on behalf of the Public Prosecutor's Office.
No measures restricting freedom were taken during the investigations. The name of the suspect is not being publicly disclosed at this time.
