Security Day in Hennef Proves Successful
On May 21, a Security Day was held in the city of Hennef, with over 50 police officers and employees from several organizations participating. The operation, led by Police Chief Inspector Helmut Breuer, aimed to strengthen the sense of security among citizens and ensure a safe environment.
The day began with a search of premises, assisted by a drug detection dog. During the search, further suspected narcotics were secured, and several sealed bags with unknown substances, presumably drugs, were found in one location. Additionally, a precision scale and disposable gloves were discovered. As a result, the authorities initiated criminal proceedings for suspicion of drug trafficking.
In the market square, officers from crime and traffic accident prevention offered consultations to over 80 interested citizens. Topics discussed included burglary prevention, theft protection, and traffic safety.
On the roads, approximately 70 warning fines were issued, mainly for speeding. Furthermore, 29 reports of administrative offenses were drawn up for the illegal use of mobile phones while driving, and in three cases, officers detected driving under the influence of drugs.
The authorities involved in the security operation included the police, employees of the Hennef city administration, the RSVG (Regionalverkehr Siegburg GmbH), and the Federal Police. Over 450 people and nearly 300 vehicles were checked by the deployment forces.
At the Hennef bus station, over 1,000 passengers were checked, and 60 passengers without valid tickets had to pay an increased fare. Two locations were found to have suspected illegal gambling activities.
Police Chief Inspector Helmut Breuer concluded the day positively, stating the Security Day in Hennef was successful due to the good cooperation of the participating authorities.
