Lawyer Tony Buzbee Launches Legal Action Against Jay-Z's music company, Roc Nation
In a surprising turn of events, rapper Jay-Z, through his entertainment company Roc Nation, has filed a lawsuit against Houston attorney Tony Buzbee. The lawsuit, which was filed in a Harris County, Texas, court earlier this week, alleges that Buzbee's law firm has been the target of two frivolous cases as a result of illegal conduct.
Buzbee announced the lawsuit on Instagram on Wednesday, claiming that Roc Nation, Marcy Croft, Quinn Emmanuel Urquhart & Sullivan (QEUS), and others have violated Texas state law by offering money to a former client to file claims against Buzbee's law firm. Buzbee stated that the defendants overstepped, got sloppy, and stupidly got caught in their illegal scheme on tape.
QEUS, who is Jay-Z's counsel in claims against Buzbee, has dismissed the lawsuit as a frivolous attempt to distract from Buzbee's other frivolous lawsuits. The firm has stated that they have no idea what Buzbee is talking about. Marcy Croft, one of the defendants, has called the lawsuit "fantastical."
The lawsuit alleges that the defendants posed as employees of the state of Texas, flashed fake badges, and offered up to $10,000 to one of Buzbee's clients. Buzbee has offered the transcript of an alleged call between the defendants and his former client as evidence.
This is not the first time Jay-Z and Buzbee have been at odds. In November, Buzbee was sued by Jay-Z, who accused him of shamelessly attempting to extort exorbitant sums from him. Buzbee has yet to respond to this lawsuit.
