leader's personal and professional progression: Christian Hahn's ongoing transformation
In the ever-evolving world of electric vehicle (EV) charging, one name stands out: Christian Hahn. As the CEO of Hubject, Hahn has been instrumental in establishing e-roaming as an industry standard and driving the growth of EV charging networks.
Hahn's journey began in economic engineering, with stints at PwC, where he first encountered e-Mobility in 2009. His childhood dream of becoming an engineer evolved, and he found himself steering clear of IT, financials, and the daily suit-and-tie grind.
Hahn's tenure at PwC also saw him working on projects that helped German energy companies set up their first public charging stations. This early exposure to the burgeoning EV charging industry laid the foundation for his future endeavours.
In 2012, Hahn joined Hubject, then largely perceived as a German initiative. Under his leadership, the company has scaled up from a startup to a global scale-up. Balancing the interests of eight major shareholders from diverse industries has been an ongoing challenge, but Hahn has navigated these waters with aplomb.
One of Hubject's most significant contributions to the EV charging industry is the INTERCHARGE network conference (ICNC). Initially attended by just 50 participants, the conference has grown to attract over 5,000 attendees from around the world, providing a platform for discussions on interoperability, regulation, and market trends.
Hahn's mission to convince stakeholders of the importance of e-roaming for mass EV adoption was not without its challenges. However, Hubject's Plug&Charge technology, a seamless and secure solution, has grown to nearly three million electric vehicles globally.
Recently, Hubject launched a financial settlement solution to streamline transactions between charging network operators. This move further solidifies Hubject's position as a leader in the EV charging industry.
As Hubject expands its operations across Europe, North America, and Asia, connecting over one million charge points, Hahn is setting his sights on the rapidly electrifying commercial vehicle sector. The company is scaling up Plug & Charge globally, with a focus on truck charging.
Outside of work, Hahn finds solace in gardening and spending time with his three children. His advice for leaders scaling a company is to stay grounded, build a strong team early on, and be open to feedback.
Hahn believes that making mobility more sustainable is essential, and e-Mobility plays a key role in reducing city smog. As we move towards a more electric future, Christian Hahn and Hubject are at the forefront of this transformation.
