Leeds United sets a new Premier League spending benchmark with the acquisition of Okafor
Noah Okafor Joins Leeds United on Four-Year Deal
Noah Okafor, a 25-year-old forward, has joined Leeds United on a four-year contract, marking the ninth summer signing for the club. The transfer fee for Okafor from AC Milan is reportedly £18 million.
Okafor began his professional career at FC Basel in Switzerland, where he won the Swiss Super League Young Player of the Year award. He then moved to Red Bull Salzburg, making over 100 appearances and contributing to 57 goal involvements.
In August 2024, Okafor joined AC Milan. However, he only appeared in 11 games for the Italian club before being loaned out to Napoli for the latter half of the previous season. Despite the limited game time, Okafor managed to score six goals in 16 appearances in the UEFA Champions League for AC Milan.
Expressing his excitement about joining Leeds United's squad, Okafor stated, "I can't wait to step on the field for Leeds United. The Premier League has always been a childhood dream for me, and I believe it is the best league in the world."
Okafor also mentioned that his football style suits the Premier League and that he has several friends who have played or are currently playing in the league. This signing contributes to the Premier League's summer spending surpassing the previous record of £2.36bn to £2.37bn.
If no injuries occur, Okafor could make his Premier League debut against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday. This is a significant addition to Leeds United's squad, following the arrival of Dominic Calvert-Lewin last week.
Okafor's ambition to play in the Premier League was evident as he expressed his belief that the league is the best in the world. He stated, "Playing in the Premier League has been a dream of mine, and I am thrilled to be a part of Leeds United. I believe that this is the perfect place for me to continue my career and achieve my goals."
With Okafor's signing, Leeds United fans are eagerly anticipating his debut and the impact he will have on the team. As the new season approaches, the club looks set to challenge for a top spot in the Premier League.
