Last Friday (23.04.21), a 60-year-old woman from Meerbusch fell victim to a fraud incident in the supermarket parking lot on Gottlieb-Daimler-Straße. The Neuss Criminal Investigation Department 23 is currently investigating the case.

According to the police, the woman was approached by a stranger claiming his wife had been in an accident. The man, described as approximately 55 to 65 years old, of stocky build, and speaking broken German with a strong Eastern European accent, asked the woman to help him write down hospital addresses.

After assisting the stranger, the woman discovered multiple transactions had been made from her bank account, totaling a four-digit sum. Unfortunately, her money was not recovered.

The police are appealing for witnesses and ask anyone with information to contact the police at 02131 300-0. They advise to keep bags in sight, maintain a safe distance from strangers, carry valuable items close to your body, carry as little cash as possible, and never write down your PIN or store it on a mobile device.
