Li Haotong Clinches Masters Berth, Likely PGA Tour Card Following Impressive performance at The Open Championship

Li Haotong secures a Masters berth and presumably a PGA Tour card following his impressive performance at the Open Championship.

Haotong Li, the Chinese professional golfer, has had a remarkable run at The 2025 Open, securing both a PGA Tour card and a spot at next year's Masters.

Li's journey began with a strong performance in the Open prize money payout, earning approximately $700,000. His performance was not only financially successful but also marked a significant improvement in his world ranking. After ending 2021 ranked 460th, Li is now currently ranked 111th.

During the final round, Li formed a friendship with World No.1 Scottie Scheffler. Despite Scheffler initially not recognising Li when he asked to practice together, the two exchanged jokes and enjoyed playing together. Li expressed his admiration for Scheffler, calling him a "lovely guy."

Li's game was on point throughout the tournament. He gained 6.66 strokes with his approach game, ranking 3rd in the field. This impressive performance helped him finish the final round at 11-under-par.

Despite trailing Scottie Scheffler by four strokes prior to the final round, Li played for second place. He showcased his skill with a clutch up-and-down for birdie from the greenside bunker on hole 17. Li finished the tournament in a tie for 4th place alongside Wyndham Clark and Matt Fitzpatrick.

Li's impressive performance at The 2025 Open has secured him a spot in next year's Masters, marking his third appearance and his first in seven years. However, the specific tournament Li will play in April 2026 remains unknown.

With his PGA Tour card secured via the DP World Tour, Li has expressed interest in practicing with Scottie Scheffler on the PGA Tour. As he continues to climb the world rankings, Li's future in golf looks bright.

Li's victory at the Qatar Masters in February 2023, his climb in the Race to Dubai rankings, and his impressive performance at The 2025 Open are testament to his dedication and talent. As he prepares for his Masters comeback, golf fans worldwide eagerly await his next move.
