Liechtenstein royal wedding affirmed by Princess Marie Caroline
On Saturday, August 30, 2025, a significant event took place in the small principality of Liechtenstein. Princess Marie Caroline, the only daughter of Hereditary Prince Alois and Hereditary Princess Sophie, exchanged vows with her fiancé, Leopoldo Maduro Vollmer.
The wedding ceremony took place at the Cathedral of Vaduz, a venue that holds great significance for the royal family, as it is closely connected to the Catholic Church. The Archdiocese of Vaduz, where the wedding took place, is one of the smallest in the world and is directly subject to the Pope. Bishop Benno Elbs officiated the wedding, considering it a "holy moment."
The ceremony was a celebration for the whole country, allowing people to witness the entrance and exit of the newlyweds in front of the church. The ceremony included readings, music, and multilingual elements in German, English, and Spanish, reflecting the couple's diverse backgrounds.
Leopoldo Maduro Vollmer, the groom, is 34 years old and comes from a Venezuelan family. He studied in Scotland and Cambridge and currently works as an investment manager in London. The couple was last seen together at the Liechtenstein National Day on August 15.
The wedding was a major event in the small principality, emphasising the importance of the Catholic Church in Liechtenstein, with over 70% of the population belonging to it. After the ceremony, the reception followed at Vaduz Castle, as announced by the House of Liechtenstein.
